HGV Drivers Speed on Dual Carriageways

A shocking study has shown that HGV drivers speed on dual carriageways. In fact it was found that 83 per cent of drivers go over the 50mph speed limit. Fleet companies that are trying to save costs when they compare fuel cards can find rather quickly this savings is burnt up through increased costs with business insurance.

This is due to the dangers their fleet drivers pose on these carriageways. Fleet managers are becoming more aware of the problem since many have added in fleet tracking; however, there are some who do not have the power to stop their drivers from speeding regarding tight delivery schedules and other behaviour issues.

The choice in GPS system will determine how a fleet company can stop speeding. There are some that will put a cap on how fast the vehicle can go. However, the cap can only be set and then left alone. It means someone switching from a highway where speeds need to be higher to a lower MPH can still speed. The best thing is driver retraining and to get the best monitoring system possible to ferret out these bad drivers. Otherwise, these companies may have to turn towards invoice factoring to pay the bills for accidents and tickets.
